Free Internet Phone Call - DIY Reference Guide: How to Make Free Online Phone Call with VoIP Technology and Enjoy Most Advanced VoIP Telephony Features for Your Home or Business

Is VoIP only beneficial for corporations?

Generally, telephone service via residential VoIP is either free or costs less than similar service from traditional sources, but it's comparable to alternative Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) service providers. Some cost savings are from using a single network to convey voice and data, especially where users have accessible underutilized network facility they can use for residential VoIP at no extra cost. VoIP to VoIP telephone calls on any given provider are customarily free, while VoIP to PSTN calls normally costs the user of residential VoIP.

What is VoIP?
Many of them keep wondering What is VoIP? VoIP expands as Voice over Internet Protocol. The routing of voice conversations over the Internet or other IP-based networks like IP Telephony, Internet telephony, Broadband Phone, Broadband telephony and Voice over Broadband is known as VOIP.
Voice over IP traffic can be installed on any IP network, which includes those deficient of a connection to the rest of the Internet, for example on a local area network.

The protocols used to transmit voice signals over the IP network are normally referred as Voice over IP. These Voice over protocols are usually observed as commercial insights of the experimental "Network Voice Protocol" invented in 1973.

The other day, the phone rang and it was my friend Flo calling from overseas. We hadn't talked in quite a while, so we nattered on for an hour or so. It wasn't until she said "Well, this call has cost me $1.20" that I realised she was Skyping me - calling me from her computer using Internet telephone software. On her end, no phone was involved at all, merely a headset microphone, Skype software, her computer and her broadband Internet connection. From my end, it seemed like a normal phone call. Maybe with a touch more echo on the line than usual, but otherwise indistinguishable from a call from my brother across town.
This is VoIP in action. It's a technology which has been lurking around for some time, appearing in nascent form in a number of applications over the years. Now, it's really starting to make a splash.
